Devotion

More than a year ago my lover said to me that she thought devotion might be more important than love.
We’re not together anymore, and that line has stayed in my head.
I’ve come back to it time and time again.
I understood it in my mind.
In the past few weeks it’s landed in me.
Landed in my heart, in my body, in my being.

Devotion.
Love will rise and fall, it will change the way it expresses itself.
Devotion remains.
Devotion to myself, to myself in life, to my path.
Devotion to you, in relationship. Devotion to myself in the relationship, to you in the relationship. Devotion to the relationship, to finding a way through, finding a way to the heart, finding a way to love, finding a way to forgive, finding a way to release.
Devotion is beneath love.
It creates a platform, a foundation, for love to stand on, grow on, expand on.
Devotion is a platform for life, a foundation for love of life to stand on, grow on, expand on.
Devotion is there when love is not.
Devotion is there when everything else may be taken away.
Devotion is there in the heart, in the core of our being.
We come to devotion through a deep, tortuous journey, often painful.
We come to devotion through a growing awareness of who we are, of the path we choose to walk.
We come to devotion in service of ourselves, of life. In this web of connection we see, in time, you and I are one, life expressing itself through us in unique celebration. Devotion to myself becomes devotion to you.
We come to devotion by being willing to see beyond the illusion we’ve been given.
We come to devotion by being willing to free ourselves from conditioning and patterning.
We come to devotion by asking who we are.
We come to devotion by surrendering to Mystery.
