IF I WERE TO WRITE SOMETHING ABOUT INTIMACY TODAY

If I were to write something about intimacy today

I’d write how vital it is for us

For our bodies

For our hearts

For our health

For our lives

I’d write that we are designed or created

Whichever you choose

For intimacy and connection

And we’ve been convinced

And convinced ourselves

That it’s not so

That its not safe

That we need to protect ourselves

That we need to close ourselves

That we need masks and armour and walls

I’d write that much of what we feel

As pain and suffering

Is from not being intimate with ourselves

For not knowing ourselves

For not trusting ourselves

For not knowing our feelings

For not knowing our hearts

Not knowing the deeper parts of ourselves

Not knowing how to listen to our inner voice

Not knowing how to hear

For intimacy is a relationship

An engagement

A conversation

Of feeling within

Of seeing

With inner eyes

Beyond the illusion and expectation

The Light within

I’d write that in intimacy

With myself and with you

I’ll become more whole

More healthy in so many ways

That many of the systems that take me away

From myself

Would matter less

For in intimacy

I am seen

I am healed

I am felt

I have a place, a space

My dance is valued

As a thread in the tapestry of the whole

I’d write that in intimacy with you

I have a place

My heart has a home

Your arms hold me with tenderness

Your eyes see me

I am welcomed

My shadow and my light

Words of openness are spoken

With love

I’d write that intimacy is presence

And presence is intimate

And that presence keeps us

Grounded in the moment of reality

Where judgement and expectation of others

Falls away

To allow the heart to be heard

As it sings its song of life

I’d write that intimacy opens a space

For the vastness of me, of you

To be expressed

A space that expands as we expand

A space that offers the liberation of revelation

For us to reveal

All that’s within us

And know that it has a place

When it’s seen

When we are seen

I’d write that I sit before you

And open myself

Body, mind, heart, soul

To intimacy with you

To see, to be seen

To hear, to be heard

To feel, to be felt

To know, to be known

I’d write that in intimacy

Your heart, my heart

Have one beat

The beat of life

The beat of love

The beat of possibility.
