The Sensual Meditation of Touch

Share

One of the most beautiful things to come out of the journeys of healing, exploration and growth I share with people is how our sexuality and sensuality connect to almost every other aspect of ourselves and our lives.

One of these is how sensual practices become a meditation.

Let’s explore a few threads of this and then bring them together in a space of beautiful possibility.

The first is what we see meditation as.

For most people the perception of meditation is sitting silently or chanting a mantra. Meditation can be so many things. And one of the purposes of this is that life becomes a meditation. Meditation often begins as a way to relieve stress and relax. It’s about a connection with yourself, and then something more. It’s a spiritual practice. It’s a time of renewal. It’s a time of prayer. And over time, if we make it a regular practice and part of life we see so many other benefits coming from it.

In today’s world we are bombarded with input, with stimulation, with immediacy. Our concentration spans are getting shorter. Our lives are seemingly getting fuller. Out stressors are increasing at an alarming pace. The pressures of life are growing. It becomes more and more difficult to be quiet and alone with ourselves. And it becomes more and more important.

We tend to look at sensuality as being a part of sex. It’s often about foreplay, preparation for something else.

In fact, sensuality is how we connect to life.

It’s our feelings, emotions and sensations.

It’s our taste, our, touch, our smell, our words, our hearing, our intuition, our creativity.

It’s how we experience the world, it’s our connection to life.

It’s also our pleasure, our delight in movement, in eating, in listening to music, in watching a movie, reading a book, walking in the sun or the wind.

It’s way more than an element of sex.

Part of the Heart-Centred Tantric Sensual Massage I teach, is very slow, very gentle touch.

Simply put, this becomes a meditation.

It becomes an inward journey. We turn it all inwards. First you connect with yourself, your heart, your energy. You feel your body. You touch another. There’s a connection. Instead of focusing on them, focus on yourself. Your hands on their body. They become your meditation. The touch becomes your meditation. You breathe. You move. It becomes a dance with yourself. As you go deeper you feel yourself. You become more present with yourself. You become more aware of when you go into your mind, into the busyness, into thoughts, into the past, into the next moments. And over time of the practice you become more aware of being present with depth. Going beyond your mind, beyond your body.

You return revitalised, refreshed, awake, peaceful, energised, connected…

There is such deeper purpose in our sensuality, in our sexuality, in our learning of the erotic energy. It’s learning of ourselves, of life. It’s a way of learning to be present. It’s going beyond the incredibly limiting idea of everything leading to orgasm.

In this space the giving is the receiving.

Touching in this way, we touch ourselves. The perception we have of ourselves, of another changes, expands.

And we see, in time, how all of life can become a meditation.
