The very first thing I started teaching was Taoist Sexual Energy Massage.
I didn’t know much then, about 30 years ago, and it was taught in quite a sexual context.
I’d never received or experienced the massage, so I only saw what it did.
Then I taught it to a partner, who did it for me.
The intention was to make love afterwards.
She was kneeling next to me, I reached for her, and felt a deep sob inside of me that burst out. I sobbed for probably about 20 minutes, a huge release.
Then I started learning.
About meridians, energy, The 5-Element Model, sexual energy, the power of sexual energy for healing, longevity, creativity, meditation and more.
About what this massage does.
After all this time, of learning and developing so many practices and experiences, Taoist Massage is still one of the deepest, most powerful, most beautiful.
It’s a slow, gentle massage, it becomes, once you know it, a meditation to do.
It’s one of the only purely technique based massages I teach, all of the others are creative, intuitive, in the moment.
They have a framework, an understanding, and they become a personal expression of touch and connection.
Taoist Massage works, in all the ways it does, because of the technique.
That’s it’s power.
And powerful it is.
One of the really interesting things about it is that you can receive, and do this, every month for your whole life, it’s never the same.
Sometimes it’s subtle, relaxing, releasing, softening, opening.
Sometimes it’s a fire, of sensation, emotion, pleasure.
Sometimes it’s an out-of-body, transcendent experience.
Sometimes you laugh, cry.
Sometimes you don’t remember a thing from the beginning to the end.
Sometimes it’s just nice, and a day or 2 later a whole lot happens.
The massage connects to the wisdom of the body.
Every time you do it, you’re balancing the entire meridian system, releasing energy, opening the channels, and that innate force directs the energy, where and how it’s needed.
It’s not of the mind.
It’s not cause and effect.
It’s connecting, bringing yourself in presence, and allowing what’s within us to do what it knows, what’s there naturally.
It’s not forcing anything, it’s not trying to make anything happen.
It’s surrendering to what is.
The sexual energy part of the massage is interesting, and a little different to how we sometimes understand that.
We tend to connect sexual energy with arousal and pleasure.
And of course it is.
And there’s more.
Our sexual energy is life-force, vitality, creativity.
It’s a power for healing, not only sexual issues and blockages, for so many other things as well.
It’s also a path of personal enquiry, a way to explore so much of ourselves.
And an energy for creativity, not only artistic creativity, expressed in so many ways, but the crafting of our lives.
And going deeper, it’s a path of spiritual experience as well.
The point of sexual energy in this massage, and there’s not a lot of genital touch, different to some of the neo-tantric massages, is to build the energy, spread it through the body, and keep it in the body.
This is where our innate wisdom comes in, in directing it in the way we need at that moment.
Because it’s such a powerful energy, when we make it available, we can use it.
Which allows us to expand our perspective on sexual energy, on ourselves as sexual beings, and opens doors of possibility.
In a few weeks time I’m sharing a Taoist Sexual Energy Massage workshop.
