THE SACRED TOUCH OF SERVICE

Share

So much of our touch wants something.

So much of our touch is for something else, leading to something else.

So much of our touch, even subconsciously, has an expectation in it.

So much of our touch is for a reaction, a response.

And because touch is a language of the body, the body, even subconsciously, picks up what’s in the touch.

When there is an expectation, a want, when the touch has something in it, we become aware of that.

And there are so many times where we tighten up, we contract, subconsciously.

Where our nervous systems tighten.

Where something deep inside of us feels unsafe to simply receive, because it’s not just receiving.

And as much as we might want, welcome, even desire a touch, there are so many times we’re aware of what’s in it, and say no because of that.

Or feel pressured.

There are times we don’t always want to go somewhere, which is often more sexual.

There are times we don’t always want it to go anywhere else in the body.

There are times we’d love to receive, in many ways, without having to reciprocate, without having to react in a way that’s desired by our partner’s.

Our touch communicates our intention, beyond conscious awareness, the body, the conversation that’s beyond words, even beyond thoughts, feels this.

There’s an inner knowing.

And the more aware of ourselves we become, the more in our bodies we are, the more we’re listening to the deeper conversation within us, the more aware we are of what’s in the touch.

Spending so much time in touch, teaching about touch, exploring touch, and receiving touch, not always as much as I’d like, I’ve become aware of the many layers, the subtlety, the language of touch.

Recently I experienced what I called The Touch of Service.

A lot of touch that I ‘give’ is the realm of healing, so the idea of service makes sense.

And even with a lover I see how important it is.

Let’s go back a small step.

‘Giving’.

Often the roles of touch are quite clear, you give, I receive. And the receiving is quite passive. It’s being done to you.

When our awareness of touch expands, we come to see, feel, how much is in the giving, how much in the receiving.

Even the awareness of as my hand touches your skin, your skin is touching my hand, gives us a deeper experience.

The Touch of Service is simple, and so deep.

It’s in service to the body, to the heart, to the being.

It’s a sacred experience, to touch, to be touched in this way.

To offer a touch that is as empty as it can be of expectation, of desire, of wanting.

One of the elements of this, that makes it such a powerful experience, is the inner journey of getting there, of understanding what it is.

And this is one of the things I love about the world of touch, how it’s a path of our own healing, our own growth, our own awareness.

It’s a spiritual path.

And offers so much as it takes us into ourselves, and outwards, in its sharing.

The Touch of Service is a prayer, a meditation.

It’s not a technique, it’s not of the mind, it’s not about goal, it’s not about going anywhere, achieving anything, making anything happen, it’s not about a response, a reaction.

It’s about presence, connection, what is, awareness, this moment.

And all of the Divine possibilities that holds.
